Why Royal African Co.?

 Artist/ Owner, SaBrina O. Jeffcoat

Becoming a business owner was a matter of necessity. But in retrospect, an essential component to me becoming who I am, my understanding of my abilities. The catalyst for starting my retail and arts education business, Royal African Company, Ltd. Co., included graduating from the College of Charleston in 2012, working for the Savannah College of Art and Design for two years and coming home to Columbia, SC.
I returned with a great enthusiasm about entering the workforce as an art professional in the place I cared most about, but the opportunity never manifested. Having exhausted my savvy, I decided to rethink my situation. Using my transferable skills and formal education to create the work I had not been able to successfully secure via cover letters, resumes and interviews.
Not believing in coincidence, I now know that the drive that I possess could only have been cultivated through the challenges associated with entrepreneurship. Royal African Co. is proudly featured in five SC retaiI locations, has exhibited in a number of exhibitions, pilots Wellbred, a STEAM- based lifeskills program with the Center For Learning, Inc., has played an integral role in the launch of Columbia's Public Art database and celebrates each and every interview or feature in the news!
